Marie Strong: Glass
I have always loved glass. As a child growing up in the San
Luis Valley of Colorado, I used to sit in church and stare at the
beautiful stained glass windows. I used to pore through
mail-order catalogs and admire all the glass and crystal
stemware that I found so beautiful. When my daughter and
son were in junior high school, I returned to college to obtain
my teaching certification. It was at that time that I took a class
in stained glass. I worked with stained glass for 10 years and
enjoyed it greatly. While buying glass for a project, I saw an
advertisement for a class on fusing glass. I took the class with
master glass artist Martha Wolf. After that wonderful class I
bought my first kiln. That was 12 years ago. Today, I still enjoy
it immensely. I have continued to take classes, including one
from master glass artist, Richard LaLonde. Together with my
husband, Larry, who does all the metal that is often part of my
art, and my brother, Joe, who does all the wood part of my
art, we are never at a loss for new ways to create something
fun and exciting.
